Comprehensive Primary Care for Adults from Dr. Hina Zaman, MD
I’m Dr. Hina Zaman, a board-certified family medicine physician who has been caring for adults in Murphy, Plano, and Wylie and the DFW metro area for over a decade. When you walk into my office, you’re not just another appointment on my schedule. You’re someone with a unique health story, and my job is to understand that story completely.
Whether you’re a busy professional in your 30s juggling work stress and poor sleep, a parent in your 40s noticing new health concerns, or someone in your 60s managing multiple chronic conditions, I provide the kind of care that actually fits into your life. Not rushed 10-minute visits. Real conversations. Answers that make sense. Treatment plans you can actually follow.
What Makes My Approach Different
In my Murphy practice, I see what happens when adults bounce between urgent care, specialists, and online symptom checkers. You end up with fragmented care where no single doctor knows your complete picture. That’s not how medicine should work.
I serve as your medical home. The doctor who knows you. Who remembers that you had a stressful job change last year. Who understands that your father had diabetes and your mother had thyroid disease. Who can look at your full medication list and spot the drug that’s probably causing your fatigue.
That continuity matters. It means better care, fewer unnecessary tests, and someone who notices the subtle changes that signal a bigger problem.
Adult Medicine Services I Provide
Acute Illness Care
When you wake up feeling awful, you need answers quickly. I diagnose and treat common adult illnesses including:
- Respiratory infections: Bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus infections, flu, COVID-19
- Urinary tract infections: Both simple UTIs and recurrent infections
- Skin infections: Cellulitis, abscesses, rashes
- Gastrointestinal issues: Food poisoning, stomach viruses, new digestive symptoms
- Allergic reactions and seasonal allergies (cedar fever is brutal in Texas)
I help you figure out what needs immediate treatment, what will resolve on its own, and when testing or specialist referral is actually necessary. Not every sore throat needs antibiotics. Not every headache needs an MRI. Experience teaches you the difference.
Chronic Disease Management
This is where family medicine really shines. Many of my Murphy patients are managing multiple ongoing health conditions. Instead of seeing three different specialists who don’t communicate with each other, you have one doctor coordinating everything.
I manage:
- Diabetes and prediabetes: Blood sugar control, medication management, preventing complications
- High blood pressure: Finding the right medication with the fewest side effects
- High cholesterol: Deciding when lifestyle changes are enough and when you need medication
- Thyroid disorders: Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules
- Asthma and COPD: Keeping your breathing under control
- Arthritis and chronic pain: Managing discomfort without over-relying on medications
- Anxiety and depression: Primary care handles the majority of mental health in America
One of my patients came to me taking eight medications from three different specialists. Nobody had looked at the complete picture. We discovered two medications working against each other, one causing her fatigue, and one she didn’t actually need anymore. We streamlined her treatment to five medications. She felt better within two weeks.
That’s what happens when one doctor sees the whole picture.
Preventive Care and Health Screenings
The best medicine is catching problems before they start. During your annual physical, I’m not just going through the motions. I’m looking for early warning signs.
Age-appropriate screenings I provide:
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Cholesterol and lipid panels
- Diabetes screening (especially important for our South Asian patients who have higher risk)
- Thyroid function testing
- Cancer screenings (coordinating mammograms, colonoscopies, skin checks)
- Bone density screening for osteoporosis
- Depression and anxiety screening
- Immunization updates (flu, pneumonia, shingles, tetanus)
I also spend time on the things that aren’t on a lab report. How’s your sleep? Your stress level? Your diet? Your exercise? These factors matter just as much as your cholesterol number.
Medication Management and Review
This is quietly one of the most important things I do. The average adult over 65 takes 4-5 prescription medications. Add in over-the-counter drugs and supplements, and the number climbs higher.
More medications means more risk of:
- Drug interactions
- Side effects that get mistaken for new health problems
- Medications that work against each other
- Drugs you no longer need but nobody ever stopped
At least once a year (and whenever you start a new medication), I review your complete medication list. Everything you take. Prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, supplements. We look for problems, duplications, and opportunities to simplify.
Women’s Health Services
As a female physician, I understand the health concerns specific to women. I provide:
- Annual well-woman exams and Pap smears
- Contraception counseling and management
- Perimenopause and menopause care (hormone therapy discussions, symptom management)
- Evaluation of irregular periods, heavy bleeding, pelvic pain
- UTI prevention and treatment (including recurrent UTIs)
- Breast health evaluation and coordination of mammograms
Many of my patients tell me they’re more comfortable discussing sensitive issues with a female doctor. I get it. My door is always open for those conversations.
Men’s Health Services
Men often avoid the doctor until something is seriously wrong. I’m trying to change that pattern in my Murphy practice.
- Prostate health screening and PSA testing
- Testosterone evaluation (when appropriate)
- Erectile dysfunction (yes, we can talk about this)
- Heart disease prevention (the #1 killer of men)
- Colon cancer screening coordination
Guys, annual checkups matter. Heart disease and colon cancer are both preventable if caught early. Come see me before you have symptoms.
Geriatric Care for Older Adults
As you age, your healthcare needs change. I help older adults maintain their independence, mobility, and quality of life through:
- Fall prevention: Assessing balance, strength, medications that increase fall risk
- Memory evaluation: Distinguishing normal aging from early dementia
- Polypharmacy review: Especially critical for seniors taking multiple medications
- Bone health: Osteoporosis screening and fracture prevention
- Coordination with specialists: Cardiology, orthopedics, neurology as needed
- Advanced care planning: Having important conversations about your wishes
I also work closely with family members who are helping aging parents navigate healthcare decisions.
Weight Management and Metabolic Health
Weight is a sensitive topic. I approach it from a health perspective, not a cosmetic one. If your weight is affecting your blood sugar, blood pressure, joints, or overall health, we should address it.
I offer evidence-based weight management including:
- Nutritional counseling and realistic dietary changes
- Exercise recommendations that fit your current fitness level
- Metabolic testing to understand your individual situation
- GLP-1 medications (Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro) when appropriate
- Addressing underlying issues (thyroid problems, medications that cause weight gain, sleep apnea)
I’ve watched too many patients try fad diets and extreme programs that don’t last. Sustainable change comes from understanding your unique metabolic situation and making changes you can maintain.
Mental Health Support
Most mental health care in America happens in primary care offices, not psychiatrists’ offices. I screen for and treat common mental health conditions including:
- Depression and persistent low mood
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Stress-related physical symptoms
- Insomnia and sleep disorders
- Adjustment disorders (grief, life transitions, job stress)
I can prescribe antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications when needed. I also know when therapy referral is important, and I work with excellent counselors in the Murphy and Plano area.
Mental health is health. Period. I treat it with the same seriousness as diabetes or high blood pressure.
When to See Me vs. Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room
Patients often ask me this question. Here’s my honest answer:
See me (schedule an appointment) for:
- New symptoms that have been going on for more than a few days
- Chronic condition management and medication refills
- Annual physicals and preventive care
- Follow-up after urgent care or ER visits
- Non-urgent concerns that need evaluation
Urgent care works for:
- Minor injuries (sprains, minor cuts)
- After-hours illness when I’m not available
- X-rays for possible fractures
Go to the ER for:
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Severe injuries or trauma
- Stroke symptoms
- Severe abdominal pain
- Any life-threatening emergency
When in doubt, call my office. We can help you decide if you need to be seen right away or if it can wait for a scheduled appointment.
